We would usually meet with you to assess criteria for a given project, do any relevant research and then present a concise shortlist of possibilities suitable for your situation with “pros and cons”, costings (if relevant), etc. for each.

Some of the things we can consult on are:

• Data handling - finding the most efficient, cost-effective way for your organisation to gather, hold and manage business data. How should it be held and backed up? How should it interact with and be shared between relevant persons? What software is needed, if any? How can you maximise the value of that data? Do you have requirements under the Data Protection Act? We can advise in a truly independent manner.
• Mixed networks - a few Macs here, a Windows PC there, a Linux mailserver, a networked laser printer, a spare USB printer… it seems messy, but we can get them all chatting happily to each other with minimum fuss.
• Backup solutions - your data is your business. We can assess your needs in terms of backup, archival and data retention and ensure that you always have access to your business-critical information, even if the unthinkable happens.
• Security - we can ensure that your network and data stay safe from prying eyes. Sadly, most small organisations broach this subject only after they have been the unfortunate victim of unauthorised access. Preparation is key.

All our consultancy services are charged at our general labour charge of £45 per hour. You may also book a full day (around 8 hours) for £300 (saving £60).

When dealing with data, we try always to use open standards. This ensures that your data remains portable across platforms and applications and is therefore not tying you in to a particular format, application or technology. As your business grows, you can continue to use, access and migrate that data in whatever way you require. Also, you are paying for our expertise, not for us to present you with a shopping list of expensive, proprietary software.
